* Kaikoura Seafest
Kaikoura's premier festival featuring wine and food from the region, Seafest is an annual celebration of the abundance of the ocean and all it represents for the Kaikoura region. Seafest is held on the first Saturday of October each year.

Widely recognised as one of the most important and prestigious awards for the visual arts in Europe. Winner announced in December each year.
* Volvo Round The World Ocean Race
The 2011-12 Volvo Ocean Race started in Alicante, Spain, in October 2011 and will finish in Galway, Ireland in July 2012. Auckland is a stopover port.
* Walters Prize
The Walters Prize is a biennial award that sets out to recognise the most outstanding contribution made to contemporary visual art in New Zealand in the two years preceding its award. Last held 2010.
