* Allan Wilson Centre for Molecular Ecology and Evolution
* The Bioinformatics Institute, University of Auckland, New Zealand
New Zealand's Bioinformatics Institute was established with funding from AgResearch Ltd, and the University of Auckland. With ten full-time researchers and twenty-five affiliate investigators, the Bioinformatics Institute is a centre of research excellence in bioinformatics, with specialisations in evolutionary bioinformatics, genomics, microarray analysis, and population and conservation genetics.
* Biology @ Studyit: for NCEA students
Studyit is an online learning environment for NCEA biology students.
* Biology @ Te Puna Web Directory
Links to New Zealand organisations and information.
* Biotech regulatory wayfinder
Information on what is involved in the regulation of biotechnology in New Zealand, and links to where you can get further information. Includes an overview of what is regulated and why, who is involved in the regulation and what is involved in the process. It is intended to be suitable for a wide range of people - from researchers to the general public. Created and maintained by the Ministry of Research, Science and Technology
* CELLS Alive!
A graphic presentation that covers both plant and animal cells.
* Centre for Bioscience ImageBank
Search and browse thousands of "freely available images contributed by academics, researchers, Learned Societies, industry and individuals with rights cleared for educational purposes."
* DNA from the Beginning
DNA from the Beginning is organized around key concepts. The science behind each concept is explained by: animation, image gallery, video interviews, problem, biographies, and links.
* The Human Genome
The definitive site for information on the human genome, including the latest developments, disease, history, ethics and, of course, the mapping project. Most impressive is the Genome Interactive Centre's Flash-powered “Chromosome Browser,” wherein you may click on images of each pair of chromosomes in the genome and are offered a detailed explanation of the genes it contains and how they function. In “Zoom in on Your Genome,” your mouse takes you from the outside of a human body into an organ, then a cell, and deeper still until you've ventured as far as a chromosome and its component parts, right down to DNA bases.
* Learn.Genetics from the Genetic Science Learning Center
An educational resource that explains how genetics relates to our lives and society. From the University of Utah
* Plant-SyNZ
This database focuses on New Zealand native plants and New Zealand native invertebrate herbivores (insects and mites). It includes naturalised and cultivated plants that host native herbivores and adventive and overseas invertebrate herbivores that feed on native plants. The Plant-SyNZT database will enable a user to search for and obtain a list of herbivores associated with a particular plant or search for and obtain a list of plants associated with a particular herbivore.
* SparkNotes Study Guide Biology
From evolution, cells, micro organisms, DNA to plants and animal behaviour. May require you to join but membership is free.
* Stem Cells in the Spotlight
Brush up on the fundamentals of the process with the animated intro, “What Is a Stem Cell?”; learn about the various ways in which scientists currently use the cells in their searches for cures for such diseases as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's and how they might employ them in the future; and even delve into the moral, religious and ethical debate surrounding lab access to “the body's building blocks.” Superb design, excellent graphics and jargon-free text elucidate the details of this fascinating and controversial medical phenomenon. From the University of Utah Genetic Science Learning Center
* WorldFish Center - FishBase Project
Mulit-lingual fish identification database
