This index is from an unpublished manuscript compiled about 1925 by the missionary Rev. Henry James Fletcher (1868-1933). In its original form it was 987 pages long, a vast index of Māori names referred to in books and journals, including the names of boundaries, Māori individuals, canoes, trees, landmarks and geographical locations.

Muaupoko Tribal Authority

Muaupoko are the Māori people who traditionally occupy the lands on the west coast at southern end of the North Island of New Zealand. The Muaupoko are also called Ngāi Tara. These days the largest population of Muaupoko is in the Horowhenua North of Wellington. Muaupoko has twenty-seven registered hapū, but only six of these are active today. The active hapū are: - Ngāi Te Ao, Ngāti Hine, Ngāti Pariri, Ngāti Tamarangi, Ngāti Whanokirangi, Punahau. The iwi has many organised events which can be found on this site. Muaupoko also have a rōpū of creative artists, and samples of their work can be seen on their page.
