Other libraries are open as normal.

Libraries closed and services unavailable over Queen’s Birthday weekend

All our libraries will be closed on Sunday 3 June and Monday 4 June 2012. Access to the Christchurch City Libraries’ Catalogue, Cinch, Papers, Te Kereme and the Source subscription databases will be unavailable from approximately 8am Sunday 3 June until 8am Tuesday 5 June. This is to allow system maintenance to take place. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Linwood Library

Due to damage from a fire on 31 March 2012, work on Linwood Library is on hold. Before the fire, we were working with engineers and insurers on a design that would bring the library up to the new building standard. It may be some time before we can confirm how we are going to fix the library. We apologise for any frustration this is causing, and hope you will continue to use and enjoy Mini Linwood Library.

Fendalton Library re-opened Monday 21 May

Fendalton Library has re-opened following earthquake repairs and strengthening work. The library is open from 9am-8pm on weekdays and 10am-4pm on Saturday. The service centre is open from 9am-5pm on weekdays.

Linwood Service Centre buildings closed, Mini Linwood Library open

Christchurch City Council on Tuesday 17 April closed buildings at 180 Smith Street associated with the Linwood Service Centre until further notice. The Council closed the Linwood Service Centre and Library Content Services and Bindery buildings after receiving the results of the first stage of a Detailed Engineering Evaluation (DEE), which shows that the buildings are either earthquake prone or potentially earthquake prone. Engineers have recommended the buildings should not be occupied.

However, the Mini Linwood Library at the site will remain open as it is in a different building which has also been assessed and found to have an acceptable seismic capacity.

Magazine record display changes

We have changed how we display magazines on our catalogue. Find out more on finding the issue you want, and placing a hold.

New temporary library

We are exploring options to establish another larger temporary library, along the lines of Central Library Peterborough, but as yet we cannot confirm location or timeframe. We hope to have something positive to share with the public before too long.

Central Library retrieval of stock

The media has been covering the retrieval of books and other items from the Central Library which began on Monday 19 March 2012.

Here are some of the articles:

Unavailable items

We are updating our catalogue so that items which are unavailable are gradually having their status changed in catalogue records from ‘Available’ to ‘Currently inaccessible’. Find out more on Stock availability.
