Set yourself some new goals

Looking ahead

Goal-setting resources

Your library has many useful resources to help you set new goals and directions in your life.

Many of us make resolutions and set new goals, particularly at New Year. Setting a realistic goal and making it happen isn’t always easy, but there are plenty of useful resources to help you choose your goals and put them into action.

Tips

The Sorted.org.nz website gives some sensible advice when it comes to setting goals:

  • Take some quiet time, when you are not under pressure, to set your goals.
  • Be specific, realistic and write your goals down.
  • Set some big goals - like owning your own house.
  • Set some smaller goals to help you get there – like saving for a deposit or paying off your credit cards.
  • Make your goals easy to remember.

Once you have your goals clear, keep track of your progress - it is essential if you’re going to stay the course.

Support

If you would like some support in setting a goal, using the library resources or getting yourself a life coach may be the answer.

Career goals

If you’re looking to get your career on track, see the Goal setting and Planning advice of Career Services Rapuara, which includes downloadable worksheets. Our own Careers guide also has lots of useful advice.
