The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

The General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in 1966. It is observed annually on 21 March because on that day in 1960, police shot 69 people at a peaceful demonstration against apartheid "pass laws" in Sharpeville, South Africa.
