The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

The General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in 1966. It is observed annually on 21 March because on that day in 1960, police shot 69 people at a peaceful demonstration against apartheid pass laws in Sharpeville, South Africa.

The Human Rights Commission

In New Zealand the Human Rights Commission has a focus on race relations and aims to encourage the maintenance and development of harmonious relationships between individuals and groups in New Zealand society.
