Bruce Ansley celebrates Christchurch as it is, and as it used to be. Hear him share his experiences of the “Red Zone” as captured in his latest book Christchurch Heritage. Sunday 4 March, 2 - 4 pm, Sydenham Room, South Learning Centre. Tea and coffee provided. - Joe Bennett will host the Great NZ Quiz Night at Elevate Bar and Restaurant. Enter a team of four for free and compete for great prizes. Wednesday 14 March, 7 - 9 pm. Food and drink available for purchase on the night.
Paul Thomas, celebrated crime author and sports biographer, will thrill and entertain with a lively glimpse into his latest book in the Tito Ihaka series, Death on Demand. Wednesday 21 March, 5.30 - 7 pm, Tommy Changs Bar, Lyttelton. Food and drink available for purchase on the night.
Beyond the Cordon: What was it like inside the central city after 22-2-11? Come hear Geoff Burns, forensic photographer, share his experiences working with the Christchurch Police post-quake. Geoff will also introduce the newly published book Christchurch 22.2 – Beyond the Cordon. Friday 30 March, 7 - 9 pm, Bird Hall, Canterbury Museum.- There will be courses on e-book writing and blogging at South Learning Centre.

Reading your favourite book in your favourite place: photography competition
- Photography competition for 10-year-olds and over: send in a photo of a child reading a favourite book in a favourite place. The winning entry will receive an exciting prize pack and be used in promoting the Library’s Winter Reading 2012 campaign. Runners-up will also receive prizes.
- The competition opens Friday 10 February 5pm and closes Friday 16 March 5pm.
Photo guidelines
- Images can be portrait or landscape. Ideally they should have an uncluttered background.
- Images need to have a resolution of 300 dpi minimum. We suggest you set your camera to the highest file size possible (the setting on your camera will probably be called “fine” or “large”).
