Heritage Week

Heritage Week is an annual event, core funded by the Christchurch City Council, with support from local sponsors.

A message from Christchurch City Council - 20 January 2012

Following the earthquake on 22 February 2011, the decision was made to cancel Heritage Week in October as the resources of both the Council and the community were focused on responding to that event.

In 2012, heritage staff will again be focused on recovery and the Council will not be running a Heritage Week event. Council staff are engaged in ongoing heritage work including the Central City Plan, heritage recovery work and ongoing heritage response work.

Towards the end of 2012, Council staff hope to reconsider the future of Heritage Week as the Council, its stakeholders and heritage groups will have greater certainty around the condition and status of their heritage buildings, collections and resources.

We greatly appreciate the community’s ongoing support and passion for Heritage Week. The involvement of the community has been vital to the success of the event and we hope to continue the event in future years.

Christchurch City Council will announce when the process for re-evaluating the future of Heritage Week begins.
